10 things about Restylane

Restylane – The world's first filler

It was Swedish researcher and entrepreneur Bengt Ågerup, through his company Q-Med, who first invented a non-animal hyaluronic acid for use in the beauty industry (1987). In 1996, Restylane became the first non-animal filler to be launched on the market.

Hyaluronic Acid-based filler

Restylane is a filler based on hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are considered the safest filler option. Some other filler manufacturers that also use HA are: Juvaderm and Perlane
HA-based fillers account for 80% of the total filler market worldwide.

Other types of fillers

There are fillers that are not based on hyaluronic acid.
Each type of filler has different qualities. Here are some types of fillers: Calcium hydroxyapatite, polyalkylimide, polylactic acid, and polymethyl methacrylate microspheres.

What is Restylane made of?

Restylane is made from two main ingredients.
1. You may have heard doctors and nurses use the term NASHA Gel when talking about fillers. NASHA stands for None Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA Gel.
2. OBT (Optimal Balance Technology) is the second important ingredient in Restylane filler.

The world's most widely used rag

A total of 30 million treatments have been performed with Restylane since its launch in 1996. The total (all filler types) market value for fillers worldwide was NOK 32,143,702,500 (32 billion kroner) and is expected to double by 2026.

Restylane is safe

Although Restylane is a very safe treatment, complications can occur. It is therefore very important that the practitioner who injects the filler is trained and has a good understanding of the anatomy of the area being treated. TBL Medical's practitioners at the Knarvik and Bergen departments are Restylane-authorized practitioners with extensive experience.
TBL Medical is an approved and authorized Restylane clinic through Galderma's authorization program.

1G HA can hold 6 liters of water.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is already present in your skin and is what allows your skin to retain moisture and remain elastic. As we age, our bodies produce less and less hyaluronic acid, which in turn leads to the familiar signs of aging. It is said that just one gram of pure hyaluronic acid allows your body to bind as much as 6 liters of water. PS. 1 gram of HA is NOT equal to one gram of Restylane.

The placement of Restylane determines how long it lasts

How long does Restylane last? There is no single answer to this question. The patient's age and genes are factors, but the most important factor in determining how long Restylane lasts before it disappears is the treatment area. If there is little natural movement in the area being treated, the filler will last longer. Lips: 4-6 months, tear troughs will last 8-10 months.

Men are the fastest-growing customer group for Restylane treatments

Women between the ages of 20 and 50 still account for the largest proportion of those treated with Restylane, but we are seeing a steady increase in the number of men undergoing Restylane treatments at TBL Medical. In 2019, the distribution between women and men receiving Restylane treatment at TBL is as follows: 25% men and 75% women. Read more about Restylane treatment here: Restylane in Bergen and Knarvik
