An important step for lipedema surgery in Norway

TBL Medical is proud to announce that our plastic surgeon Ileana Rodríguez Standal has received the prestigious "Clinical Expert in Lipedema" award from the WAL Academy, established by the German medical technology company Human Med AG.

This makes her the first and currently only plastic surgeon in Norway to have achieved this international recognition – a milestone both for her personally and for the Norwegian medical community.

What are WAL Academy and Human Med AG?

WAL Academy (Water-jet Assisted Liposuction Academy) is an international training program developed by Human Med AG – the world leader in water-jet assisted liposuction (WAL).
The academy trains surgeons from around the world in safe, proven, and gentle methods for lipedema treatment, liposuctionand fat transplantation.

The Clinical Expert in Lipedema designation is only awarded to surgeons who:

  • Documented experience and results in lipedema surgery
  • Professional contribution to the development of the field
  • Extensive experience and high level of expertise in the use of WAL technology

The fact that Ileana Rodríguez Standal now holds this title means that she is internationally recognized as a leading surgeon and professional resource in the field.

Dr. Standal – dedicated to safe and gentle lipedema treatment

Lipedema is a chronic condition that affects many women, but is often misunderstood and mistreated.
Through her experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Ileana Rodríguez Standal has seen the need for more precise and tissue-sparing methods—and found the solution in WAL technology.

“My goal is to offer women with lipedema the safest and most effective treatment available,” says Dr. Standal. “The WAL method allows us to remove diseased fat tissue with high precision and minimal stress on the body. At the same time, we reduce scarring, swelling, and recovery time. This makes a huge difference to patients’ quality of life.”

As an internationally certified expert on lipedema, she will now contribute to international training programs, share experiences from Norway, and help further develop the standard for lipedema surgery globally.

What is water-assisted liposuction (WAL)?

WAL stands for Water-jet Assisted Liposuction, a method that uses a gentle water jet to loosen fat cells before they are removed.
This provides:

  • Less trauma to blood vessels and nerves
  • Reduced swelling and bruising
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Greater precision in the treatment of lipedema

WAL is not only used in lipedema surgery, but also in fat grafting, liposuction, reconstructive surgery, and aesthetic procedures, and is considered one of the most advanced and tissue-sparing technologies on the market today.

Our goal

At TBL Medical, we have always aimed to combine professional quality, medical safety, and technological innovation.
The award given to Ileana Rodríguez Standal confirms that the clinic is now also a professional reference point in water jet-assisted liposuction and lipedema surgery.

Through its collaboration with Human Med AG and WAL Academy, TBL Medical will continue to be at the forefront of training, professional development, and patient care in the field of lipedema and advanced body contouring surgery.
