Is Restylane in the lips right for me?

Many people ask us what their lips will look like after Restylane treatment and why this treatment would be suitable for them. Many are afraid of ending up with undesirable lips like those they have seen on TV or on the street, where the lips are overcorrected, too large, or have the typical "duckbill" appearance.

Restylane in the lips

At TBL Medical, we always strive to achieve natural results rather than an overly corrected appearance.

Full lips are often associated with youthfulness. "Women with pouty lips look younger than women with thin lips, according to new research."

"When we identified women who looked young for their age, the difference between their lips was striking," says researcher David Gunn, who is behind the research project. The researchers compared 250 British and Dutch women, according to the BBC.

Our lips are shrinking

Much of the reason why lip size comes into play when we estimate a person's age probably has to do with lip growth. Normally, lips reach their maximum size during the teenage years. And the reason why children often have large lips has to do with the proportions between their well-developed lips and the size of their face.

When we reach our 30s and 40s, many people's lips begin to shrink. And it is among mature women that we see the biggest differences. Researchers found enormous differences in lip thickness among women over 60. In fact, it varied as much as three millimeters from the top of the upper lip to the bottom of the lower lip, to 2.2 centimeters.

Who actually chooses to have Restylane injected into their lips?

Most people who request Restylane for their lips are women between the ages of 30 and 65. However, we also have younger and older clients, as well as some men.

Why do they want this treatment?

  • Want more fullness that has disappeared over the years in the lips.
  • Others want a more defined lip line, as they find that lipstick smudges when the lip line has become less defined over the years.
  • Some people want to moisturize their lips, as weather, age, etc. can cause dry and chapped lips.
  • Correct unevenness and achieve a more symmetrical appearance.
  • Reduce scarring
  • Women with wrinkles above the mouth, which often occur after smoking for a long time

We can treat both the wrinkles above the lip and the lip line to reduce the wrinkles that often run from the nose down to the lip.

Sometimes it can be beneficial to combine them with small drops of Botox to relax the muscle around the mouth in the skin above the upper lip, followed by a chemical peel.

Create fuller lips

The lips are the center of the face and often receive a lot of attention. Restylane Kiss has been specially developed to create fuller lips, more defined lip contours, and a more pronounced Cupid's bow in a natural way.
