Breast reduction for women

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts and gives a more proportional body.

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the breasts and gives a more proportional body. The procedure is suitable for women with large, heavy breasts who experience physical discomfort or psychological stress as a result of the size of their breasts.

Common problems include pain in the neck, shoulders, and back, skin irritation under the breasts, difficulty with physical activity, or poor self-image.

The procedure is performed by plastic surgeon Leana Rodríguez Standal, a specialist in plastic surgery with extensive experience in the treatment of lipedema, liposuction, breast surgery, and body surgery.

What is breast reduction?

Breast reduction involves removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce the size and weight of the breasts. The result is smaller, firmer, and more lifted breasts. The goal is to give the patient greater physical comfort and an improved quality of life.

Who is this procedure suitable for?

Women considering breast reduction often experience physical discomfort such as pain, heaviness, and limitations in daily activities. Ideal candidates are adult women in good general health with realistic expectations. Patients under the age of 18, with serious eating disorders or mental health issues that may affect their motivation for the procedure, must be carefully assessed and may be advised against surgery.

Preparations before surgery

You must first undergo a consultation with our plastic surgeon, Dr. Ileana Standa, where you will receive a thorough assessment and individual advice. Medical examinations may be required prior to the operation. It is important to avoid smoking, alcohol, and certain medications in the period leading up to the operation in order to reduce the risk of complications.

How is the procedure performed?

The operation is performed under anesthesia and usually takes between 2 and 4 hours. The surgeon makes incisions around the nipple and down the breast to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin. The nipple is often moved higher up for a more aesthetic result. The stitches used are usually dissolvable, and the scars gradually fade over time.

After the operation (aftercare)

After the operation, you should expect a few weeks of recovery, during which it is important to take it easy and follow your surgeon's recommendations carefully. You will receive advice on how to relieve discomfort and promote faster healing. Normal activities, including work and exercise, can be gradually resumed after 4-6 weeks.

Risks and possible complications

Swelling, bruising, and mild pain are normal immediately after surgery. Serious complications such as infections, reduced sensitivity in the nipple, or problems with wound healing are rare but can occur.

Expected result

The final result of breast reduction surgery will be visible after 3-6 months, once the swelling has completely subsided. The result is usually permanent, but weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or aging can affect the shape of the breasts. Realistic expectations are important for a successful outcome.

Price and financing

The price of breast reduction varies depending on the extent of the procedure. We offer several financing options and can assist with partial payment.
