What are burst blood vessels?
Telangiectasia is the medical term for broken blood vessels and spider veins (due to their spider web-like appearance)
Common to all these terms is that they are characterized as small, thin, but clearly visible red or blue blood vessels located high up in the skin.
Although these unsightly veins are part of our large vein system, they have no functional value for our body and can therefore be safely removed with laser treatment. If you want beautiful legs without unsightly visible blood vessels, laser treatment with Nd:Yag laser is an effective non-surgical way to remove them.
Usually, only one treatment with our effective laser is needed, but depending on the area and size, several treatments may be necessary at 3-4 month intervals on the body and 3-4 week intervals on the face.

How to treat burst blood vessels?
Broken blood vessels can be removed using laser treatment with Nd-Yag laser and Dye-VL IPL light treatment. The dark "pigments"—hemoglobin in the blood vessels and cells—absorb the energy of the laser light, which in turn thermally destroys the walls of the blood vessel.
This causes the blood vessel to collapse and be destroyed, and the body's lymphatic system will remove the damaged tissue, just like with a bruise. You will usually see the results immediately, but sometimes you will need one or more treatments. This process causes no discomfort for you as a patient.
This treatment is performed at the clinic in Bergen city center and at Knarvik Center.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions
-
1. How will the skin look after treatment?
On the body: This varies from person to person. Some people may experience slight swelling of the skin, similar to a cat scratch. This will usually disappear within a few days. We do not recommend hot baths, wearing nylon stockings, or strenuous exercise while the skin is sore.
No aftercare is usually necessary, but we still recommend applying a suitable laser cream such as K-Ceutic or Aleo-Vera Gel or white Vaseline to the skin. The final result will be visible a few months after treatment. On the face: Most people experience slight redness and warmth in the skin, so we recommend cooling the area well on the day after treatment. You may also find that pigmentation such as sun damage becomes darker during the first 48 hours, but this will fade after about 4-7 days. A few people may also experience some swelling, especially those who smoke.
-
2. How does the treatment feel?
You will feel a warm prick when the laser light hits the vessel, and immediately afterwards you will see that the vessel does not refill with blood. It feels like a warm needle prick, but most people do not find the treatment painful. We use cryo cooling to minimize any pain.
-
3. How does the treatment itself work?
We will first evaluate your vascular problem with a free consultation. It is important not to expose the area to the sun for the last 4 weeks before and after treatment, or use self-tanning cream for approximately 2 weeks before and after treatment, as this can cause pigmentation changes in the area being treated.
During the treatment itself, you will wear glasses that protect your eyes from the laser light. Sometimes we will apply a cold contact gel to your skin to minimize the pain and heat from the laser. How we treat with the laser depends on the appearance of the vessel and its location. -
4. Who can receive treatment
- Virtually anyone can undergo this treatment, but unfortunately, people with darker skin types cannot undergo Dye-vl-IPL treatment due to the risk of pigment damage.
- We do not treat those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- There are certain contraindications for various medications and some medical diagnoses. This is particularly true for medication that makes you sensitive to light. It is important that you list all medications during the consultation and remember to notify us if anything changes during the course of treatment.
