What is Dermapen - Microneedling?

Dermapen is an advanced form of microneedling. Treatment with Dermapen creates microchannels (microscopic holes) and delivers active ingredients and vitamin boosters 0.2 to 3 mm into the skin.

The treatment stimulates skin repair and new cell growth, as well as increased production of elastin and collagen. The treatment can also be combined with PRP for even better results.

We always use the latest version of Dermapen (currently Dermapen 4).

Dermapen creates microscopic channels in the skin that cause the cells to believe that damage has occurred. A natural response in the skin will then release a number of growth hormones, increasing collagen production in the area.

What can be treated with Dermapen

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Removing Pigmentation
  • Reduce Pores
  • Reduce acne scars or other scars
  • Reducing Stretch Marks
  • Minimize large pores
  • Give radiance to rough and aged skin.

How is Dermapen treatment performed?

The actual treatment with Dermapen takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes per area and causes minimal discomfort.

The treatment involves creating microchannels (microscopic holes) at different depths in the skin to stimulate new cell growth and the formation of collagen and elastin.

Active products/nutrients used in the treatment are introduced into the skin with the needles, allowing the products to be absorbed by skin cells deep within the skin.

You will see results after just one treatment, but we recommend a course of 5-6 treatments at 5-6 week intervals for optimal and long-lasting results.

After completing the "treatment," the skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after treatment has ended.

After treatment

The downtime after a Dermapen treatment is short, but it also depends a little on what you have treated. Superficial treatments such as light pigmentation do not require much downtime. You may experience some redness after the treatment on the same day and some dryness in the days that follow.

If we have worked on deeper skin layers, you will be red for a few days, and your skin will often feel a little dry and tight. Some people may experience slight swelling for up to a week after treatment. It is important to understand that everyone reacts differently; some people may experience redness, dryness, and swelling for longer than expected.

Makeup can be applied approximately 48 hours after treatment.

How often should I wait between treatments in a course of treatment?

For lighter treatments, you can have treatment every 4 weeks. If deeper work is required, there should be a minimum of 6-8 weeks between each treatment.

If you are working on scars and pigmentation, you can be treated every 4 weeks, alternating between deep and superficial treatments.

If you do a Google image search for microneedling, it can seem scary, as the images show a lot of blood on the face. When we treat with Dermapen, the needle length is set to the optimal depth for the problem we want to work on.

In some cases, we will continue working until we see that you are turning slightly red, or until we get a slight "blood response" if we are working on scars. Bleeding means that we are working on the wrong layer of skin, which will not produce any results in terms of skin renewal.

Microneedling and laser treatment

Scar treatment

We offer fractional laser treatment for scars and skin tightening, but as this treatment is not suitable for all skin types due to the thermal heat involved, Dermapen is a good alternative.
Dermapen has its own scar program for treating deep, atrophic scars, such as surgical scars, burn damage, stretch marks, and acne scars. The unique needle depth can go down to 3.0 mm.

Pigmentation

With Dermapen, we can treat most types of pigmentation, including those that cannot be treated with laser due to heat and hypopigmentation side effects. This means that Dermapen can help treat melasma without the risk of hyperpigmentation. Dermapen can be used on all skin types.

Before treatment with Dermapen

  • Stop using strong acid products a few days before treatment.
  • We do not treat people with bleeding disorders, diabetes, pregnant women, people who have recently undergone surgery, sunburned skin, or eczema. Ongoing acne, eczema, or herpes sores.

Dermapen microneedling in combination with PRP treatment is a highly effective treatment for several types of indications. Read more about PRP treatment
