What is Sculptra?

Sculptra® is a medical injection treatment designed to restore lost volume and strengthen the skin's structure. Unlike traditional fillers, which provide immediate filling, Sculptra works over time by stimulating the body's own collagen production.

The active ingredient is called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) – a biocompatible and biodegradable substance that has been used in medical sutures for over 30 years.

How does the treatment work on the skin?

When Sculptra is injected into the deep dermal or subcutaneous layer of the skin, the following multi-step process occurs:

  1. Stimulation of fibroblasts
    – The microscopic particles of PLLA act as a "platform" that activates the fibroblasts in the skin. These cells are responsible for producing new collagen.
  2. Gradual collagen buildup
    – Over the next few weeks, the skin begins to build up new type I collagen, which provides more elasticity, density, and volume. The results become visible gradually, usually after 6–12 weeks.
  3. Long-lasting effect
    – After the PLLA particles are gradually broken down and eliminated by the body, the new collagen network remains, providing natural rejuvenation that can last up to 2 years or more.

Why choose Sculptra over regular fillers?

Property Sculptra Hyaluronic acid fillers
Mode of action Stimulates the body's collagen Provides immediate filling
Result Gradually and naturally Immediate, but temporary
Duration Up to 2 years + 6–12 months
Main purpose Skin improvement and volume Volume and shape correction
Reversibility Not reversible Can be resolved with hyaluronidase

Sculptra is therefore particularly suitable for patients who want a subtle, lasting and natural improvement, rather than a "filled" appearance.

The treatment process at TBL Medical

  1. Consultation and assessment
Our cosmetic nurses and the doctor in charge will thoroughly review your skin condition, medical history, and desired results.

  2. injection Sculptra is mixed and injected strategically into areas such as the cheeks, temples, jawline, or chin area. The entire process usually takes 30–60 minutes.
  3. Aftercare
After treatment, it is recommended to massage the area gently for five minutes, five times a day for five days (the "5-5-5 rule"). This distributes the particles evenly and reduces the risk of lumps.
  4. Gradual results
Most people see improvement after 1–2 months, and the effect continues to increase after each treatment. A complete treatment series usually consists of 2–3 sessions at 4–6 week intervals.

Combination with other treatments

At TBL Medical, Sculptra is often combined with our medical laser or skin improvement treatments for maximum effect. For example:

  • Fotona Dynamis SP Pro – tightens skin and improves surface texture
  • Laser for broken blood vessels or pigments – evens out skin tone
  • Microneedling or medical peels – give radiance and increase the effect of collagen stimulation

By combining these treatments, we achieve comprehensive rejuvenation of the skin's quality and volume.

Is the treatment safe?

Sculptra is CE marked and FDA approved and has been used globally for over 20 years.
Side effects that may occur include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, or small lumps under the skin – usually temporary.

At TBL Medical, all treatments are performed by certified cosmetic nurses under the supervision of a responsible physician, and you will always receive a thorough medical assessment before starting treatment.

All cosmetic medical treatments can cause unwanted complications. These will be thoroughly reviewed during the consultation prior to treatment. We do not treat pregnant or breastfeeding women. The responsible physician is always available.
