Do you have a fatty lump (lipoma) that causes discomfort or bothers you aesthetically? Lipomas are benign fat deposits under the skin, and removing them can increase comfort and improve quality of life.

What is fat ball removal?

Removal of fat deposits involves a minor surgical procedure in which the lipoma is removed through a minimal incision. Lipomas appear as soft lumps under the skin and consist of fatty tissue. These are usually harmless, but can be removed if they grow, cause pain, or are cosmetically bothersome. The result is often a smooth skin surface and relief from any discomfort.

Who is this procedure suitable for?

The procedure is suitable for people who experience discomfort, pain, or cosmetic embarrassment due to lipomas. Typical candidates are adults in stable general health with realistic expectations of the outcome. It is important that the patient is assessed by a specialist to confirm that it is indeed a lipoma that should be removed.

Preparations before surgery

Before the procedure, you will have a consultation with our plastic surgeon, who will assess the lipoma and your overall health. Any necessary medical tests may be performed. You must inform us of any medications you are taking and avoid blood-thinning medications beforehand. We strongly recommend that you stop smoking at least six weeks before and after the surgery to ensure the best possible results and the fastest possible healing.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size and location of the lipoma. The surgeon makes a small incision over the lipoma, gently removes it, and then closes the incision with fine stitches that leave minimal scarring.

After the operation (aftercare)

You can usually go home right after the procedure. It's normal to have some swelling and tenderness for the first few days. We recommend avoiding strenuous activity for the first week for optimal healing. You can usually go back to work within a few days and resume exercise after about 2-3 weeks.

Risks and possible complications

The procedure is safe with a low risk of complications. Possible side effects include bruising, swelling, and temporary tenderness. Very rare complications include infection, bleeding, or recurrence of the lipoma.

Expected result

The results after lipoma removal are visible immediately, but the final results will be clear once the swelling and any bruising have subsided, usually within a few weeks. The results are usually permanent, but in rare cases, new lipomas may appear in other areas.
