JULÄINE™ – Collagen-Stimulating Treatment in Bergen
JULÄINE™ is an injectable treatment developed to stimulate the skin’s own collagen production. The treatment is based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and is used when the goal is a gradual improvement in the skin’s structure, quality, and firmness.
Unlike traditional fillers, which add volume directly, JULÄINE works by stimulating processes in the skin that contribute to the formation of new collagen. The results therefore develop gradually and are intended to create a natural look without an immediate or noticeable change in volume.
JULÄINE is a CE-marked medical device intended for use in immunocompetent adults and can be used, among other things, for the cosmetic correction of skin depressions.[1]
What is JULÄINE?
JULÄINE is a collagen-stimulating injection treatment, often referred to as a biostimulator.
The treatment is based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable material that has been used in medicine and cosmetic treatments for many years.
JULÄINE uses its own microsphere technology called PLLA-LASYNPRO™. The microspheres gradually break down after treatment, while the treatment stimulates biological processes related to collagen formation.[2,3]
It is this gradual stimulation of the skin's own tissue that sets this treatment apart from traditional hyaluronic acid-based fillers.
How does JULÄINE work?
Collagen is an important component of the skin's structure. As we age, gradual changes occur in both the amount and the organization of collagen in the skin. Among other things, this contributes to the skin becoming thinner and less firm, and to lines, wrinkles, and changes in facial contours becoming more visible.
JULÄINE is injected into the tissue and is designed to stimulate the formation of new collagen.
The effects are therefore not immediate. Collagen production is stimulated gradually in the weeks and months following treatment.
The manufacturer states that cosmetic results become visible within 2–4 months for most people.[1]
How can JULÄINE help?
JULÄINE may be suitable for people who want to gradually improve their skin's texture and quality through collagen stimulation.
This treatment may be considered, among other things, for age-related changes, skin depressions, and areas where loss of support and changes in skin structure have become more noticeable.
The goal is not necessarily to add a lot of volume, but to stimulate the skin's own tissue and achieve a gradual improvement.
Whether JULÄINE is the right treatment for you is determined on a case-by-case basis. Skin quality, facial anatomy, previous treatments, medical history, and your treatment goals are all taken into account in this assessment.
JULÄINE is not a traditional rag doll
Although JULÄINE is injected in the same way as many fillers, the treatment principle is different.
Traditional hyaluronic acid-based fillers are used, among other things, to add or restore volume and can produce visible results immediately after treatment.
JULÄINE is based on PLLA and primarily acts as a collagen stimulator. The results develop over time as the skin responds to the treatment.
If the goal is an immediate and highly precise volume correction, another treatment may therefore be more appropriate.
During the consultation, we will assess which treatment method is best suited to your current situation and desired outcome.
When will I see the results?
JULÄINE does not produce immediate results right after treatment.
The desired effect develops gradually as collagen stimulation takes place. The manufacturer states that cosmetic results become visible within 2–4 months for most people.[1]
How quickly changes become noticeable and how much improvement you experience will vary from person to person.
How many treatments will I need?
The treatment plan is tailored to each individual.
According to the manufacturer’s treatment information, a course of treatment may consist of up to three treatments administered 2–4 weeks apart.[1]
That doesn't mean everyone needs three treatments. The number of treatments is determined based on factors such as the skin's initial condition, the treatment area, and the desired result.
Documentation on JULÄINE
JULÄINE is a newer PLLA treatment. The clinical evidence specifically regarding JULÄINE is therefore currently less extensive than the evidence available on PLLA as a treatment principle in general.
We believe it is important to be open about this.
A prospective multicenter study published in the *Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology* in 2025 examined treatment with JULÄINE in 36 patients. Among other things, the study reported improvements in nasolabial folds and signs of increased collagen formation. Most of the reported side effects were mild and transient.[2]
Further results from the same prospective study were published in 2026. The study examined clinical efficacy, patient satisfaction, safety, and biological changes over a six-month period and reported improvements in several of the outcomes assessed.[3]
However, the study was not randomized and had no control group. Therefore, there is a need for larger, controlled studies and additional long-term data.
Is JULÄINE safe?
All injection treatments carry a risk of side effects and complications.
After treatment with JULÄINE, side effects may include redness, tenderness, swelling, and minor bleeding or bruising around the injection site. Reactions following injection treatment are usually temporary.[1,2]
PLLA treatments may also be associated with other complications, and proper patient selection, injection technique, and product placement are important.
Before treatment, we therefore review the patient’s relevant medical history, previous treatments, and any conditions that might necessitate postponing or canceling the treatment.
JULÄINE should only be administered by qualified and trained healthcare professionals.[1]
Who is JULÄINE for?
JULÄINE may be suitable for adults who want a gradual improvement in their skin's quality and texture and who prefer collagen stimulation to a noticeable and immediate increase in volume.
This treatment may not be suitable for everyone.
Before treatment, an individualized assessment is therefore conducted, taking into account factors such as skin type, facial anatomy, medical history, previous cosmetic treatments, and expectations regarding the outcome.
CHRISTMAS OR RAG?
CHRISTMAS-STYLE and traditional rags have different characteristics and are used for different purposes.
Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used when we want to add volume or correct a specific area with relative precision, and the results are usually visible immediately.
JULÄINE is used when we want a gradual effect based on stimulating the skin's own collagen production.
Therefore, one is not necessarily better than the other. Which treatment is most appropriate depends on what one hopes to achieve.
JULÄINE or Profhilo?
JULÄINE and Profhilo are two different types of injection treatments.
Profhilo is based on hyaluronic acid, while JULÄINE is based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and uses collagen stimulation as a key treatment principle.
These treatments should therefore not be considered direct alternatives in all situations.
During the consultation, we assess your skin's current condition and what you'd like to improve before recommending a treatment.
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION at TBL Medical in Bergen
TBL Medical has been providing medical and cosmetic treatments in Bergen since 2011.
We offer a variety of treatment methods in the fields of skin improvement and aesthetic medicine. This allows us to evaluate JULÄINE in comparison with other treatment options and recommend the treatment we believe is best suited to each individual patient.
For some people, a collagen-stimulating injection treatment may be a good option. For others, laser treatment, microneedling, Profhilo, or another treatment may be more appropriate.
The goal is not to recommend a specific treatment for everyone, but to find the treatment that best suits your current situation and what you hope to achieve.
Pre-JULÄINE Consultation
Before treatment, you will receive information about how JULÄINE works, the expected results, the course of treatment, limitations, and possible side effects and complications.
You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding on a course of treatment.
The results of cosmetic treatments vary from person to person, and a specific cosmetic outcome can never be guaranteed.
